  • Durango shopping and I keep second guessing whether to get it checked
    G genarocross

I've been looking at a used Durango for the family and I've found one that seems solid, but I keep going back and forth on whether paying for a proper look is worth it. The seller has full service history and it drives nicely, but I know that doesn't tell you about everything, especially on something this big with all the towing gear. A mate mentioned getting a Used Dodge mechanical check around Business Bay before committing, and I'm leaning that way, but I wanted to ask if anyone has done this on a Durango specifically. Did they look at the transmission and the four wheel drive properly or was it mostly a visual once over? I'd rather know what I'm paying for before I book it, and I don't want to be the guy who skips it and regrets it later.

  • Who do you actually trust for an oil change near Khalifa City?
    G genarocross

Reliable oil change specialist for BMW owners around Khalifa City is basically what I'm after, but I don't know who people actually trust. My 330i is due and I'm tired of dealer prices for something this basic, but I'm also not keen on handing it to a random quick lube place that might use the wrong filter. A mate sent me a page for a BMW garage in the area and said they seem to know what they're doing, but I'd rather hear from someone who's actually sat in their waiting room. Did they use genuine parts, did they show you the old filter, and was the price fair? I'm not looking for a full inspection pitch, just a proper oil change without the usual upsell drama. Anyone nearby got a place they keep going back to?

  • Found a site that actually lists local remodel services, anyone else use it?
    G genarocross

I've been going in circles trying to figure out who does what in this area, because half the companies I find seem to cover everything and nothing at the same time. What I actually wanted was somewhere that clearly lays out the different services, plumbing, electrical, bathroom, kitchen, so I could at least understand what falls under which trade before I start calling people. Stumbled on kitchenbathpaloalto.com/ while searching and it was surprisingly straightforward, not just a sales page but actually broke things down by category which helped me realise I'd been asking the wrong questions when getting quotes. Curious if anyone else has used it as a starting point and whether the info matched what you found when you actually spoke to contractors. I'm still at the very early stage so any tips on what to look for or avoid would be welcome, especially if you've been through a kitchen job and learned things the hard way.

  • What actually happens during a brake pad change, and how long should it take?
    G genarocross

Bit of a beginner question so bear with me, I've always just handed the car over and paid whatever the bill said without really understanding any of it. My Wrangler is due for pads soon and this time I want to actually know what's going on so I can tell if someone's taking the mickey. Specifically I'm wondering how long a straightforward front pad change should take, whether they always machine or replace the discs, and what the bedding in period is really about because I've heard conflicting things. I tried searching around and found a page where you can get details on the whole process, which cleared up a few things but I'd rather hear it from people who've actually watched the work being done or done it themselves. Also, does anyone know how to tell the difference between normal pad wear noise and something that needs attention straight away? I don't want to be that person panicking over nothing but I also don't want to ignore a real problem.

  • Mustang clunk over bumps, mate sent me a page but I still want real opinions
    G genarocross

Every time I roll out of my building there's this soft knock from the front left and it's been slowly getting on my nerves for about a month now. Mentioned it to a mate who's way more into cars than me and he pulled out his phone and said tap here to see the usual culprits on these cars, which was actually helpful because I had no idea whether it was bushes, top mounts or something worse. Problem is a web page can only tell you so much and I'd still rather hear from someone who has actually lived with the same noise. The car is a 2017 GT with just over 90k on it, mostly highway driving, and it still feels fine at speed so I'm hoping it's nothing serious. Has anyone had this exact symptom and did it stay a small annoyance or did it snowball into a proper repair bill? Also curious whether people bother fixing it early or just wait until it gets loud enough to be obvious.

  • Does anyone know if these guys handle Audi electrical issues or just mechanical?
    G genarocross

My A6 has been throwing random warning lights for weeks. Sometimes it's the tyre pressure, sometimes it's something else, and they come and go with no pattern. I took it to a regular garage and they cleared the codes and said it was probably a sensor glitch. Of course it came back two days later. I'm thinking this needs someone who actually understands the electrical side of these cars, not just a generic scanner. I came across a place that does Audi repair and wanted to learn more about whether they handle electrical diagnostics properly or if it's mostly mechanical work. Has anyone had electrical gremlins sorted on their Audi? What was the actual problem and how did they find it? I'm tired of the guessing game.

  • AC blowing warm again after being "fixed" three months ago
    G genarocross

I had my AC recharged back in April because it wasn't cooling properly. Guy at the shop said it just needed refrigerant and sent me on my way. Fast forward to now and it's blowing warm again, which means there's obviously a leak somewhere he didn't bother finding. I'm not going back there. Someone told me to click here to see a place that actually diagnoses AC leaks properly instead of just topping up and hoping for the best. Before I book anything, has anyone dealt with a recurring AC issue like this? Was it a simple O ring or did it turn out to be something expensive like the compressor or condenser? I just want to know what I might be in for before I go in.

  • Anyone know where I can get genuine Audi repair in Musaffah without the dealer markup?
    G genarocross

My Q5 needs a new control arm bushing and the dealer quoted me something that felt way too high for what's essentially a wear item. I've been told the parts themselves aren't that expensive but the labour at the dealer is where they get you. A colleague mentioned that there are independents in Musaffah that use genuine parts and charge reasonable rates but I don't know which ones to trust. I've had bad experiences before where I was told parts were original and they clearly weren't. Does anyone have a place they've used long term for Genuine Audi repair in Musaffah that they'd actually recommend? I'm not looking for the cheapest option, just somewhere honest that won't cut corners or lie about what they're installing. Also curious if they can source OEM parts quickly or if I'd be waiting weeks.

  • Ceramic coating worth it in this heat or just a waste of money?
    G genarocross

Been going back and forth on this for weeks now. Everyone I talk to has a different opinion. Some say ceramic coating is a must here because of the sun and dust, others say it's overpriced nonsense that wears off in a year anyway. My A4 is white and the paint still looks decent but I want to protect it before it starts fading. A colleague mentioned he got his done and sent me https://exoticcarcare.ae/ to check out. Prices seem all over the place between different places though and I honestly don't know what a fair rate is. Is there a specific brand or type I should be asking for? And how do I know if a place is actually applying it properly versus just spraying something on and calling it ceramic? Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who's had it done and whether it actually lasted.

  • Brake pads and discs on my A6, dealer quoted insane amount, alternatives?
    G genarocross

So the brake warning light came on last week and I took it to the dealer for a check. They quoted me something close to 4k for front and rear pads plus discs and honestly I nearly choked on my coffee. I know brakes aren't something to cheap out on but that number seems wild for what's essentially a wear and tear job. I started looking around online and stumbled on exoticautoservices.ae while comparing options. The reviews seem decent but I wanted to ask here first since you lot are usually straight with feedback. Has anyone had brake work done outside the dealer on their Audi here? What did you pay and were the parts decent quality? I'm not trying to save a few hundred dirhams and end up with squealing brakes in three months, so I'd rather hear real experiences before deciding.

  • Seat stitching came undone, anyone know a good upholstery place?
    G genarocross

So the driver seat in my Accord started coming apart at the seam near the bolster and it's getting worse every week. I tried one of those quick fix mobile guys and honestly the stitching looked worse after he finished, so I'm not doing that again. A colleague told me he got his Land Cruiser seats redone somewhere in Al Quoz and they did a proper job, but he can't remember the name. I've been googling around and keep landing on 800sayara for reference and their page on car upholstery Dubai seems to cover the kind of work I need, though I'd rather hear from actual people first. Has anyone here used an expert car upholstery shop near Al Barsha for something like torn seams or worn bolsters? Just want the seat to look factory again and not like it's been patched up in a hurry.

  • Car died right outside DIFC during lunch rush, how fast can a tow actually get there?
    G genarocross

This happened to me yesterday, my car just refused to start right on the street outside DIFC around 1pm, worst possible timing with traffic building up and people honking behind me. I called a couple of numbers and one guy said 45 minutes minimum, another said over an hour, which felt insane when I am literally blocking a lane. I started searching for fast breakdown towing in DIFC and found a few options but by then I had already wasted twenty minutes calling around. In the end someone helped me push it into a side spot and I sorted it later, but it got me thinking about what to do next time. Is there actually a service that responds quickly in that area or is an hour just normal here? And does calling the police or RTA help speed things up or do they just tell you to call a tow yourself. Would appreciate knowing what actually works.

  • Our recycling bins are empty while general waste overflows, what gives?
    G genarocross

We set up proper segregation at our office in Dubai Internet City about six months ago, put labels everywhere, sent emails, the whole effort. Fast forward to now and the recycle trash bin barely has anything in it while the general waste bin next to it is constantly overflowing. Nobody is using them correctly and honestly I think people just do not want to think about it when they are throwing away a coffee cup. The cleaning company also mentioned they end up emptying everything into the same bag anyway at collection, which makes the whole exercise feel pointless and I am starting to wonder if it actually is. Is this a common thing or are we doing something wrong with how we set it up? Maybe the labels are too complicated or the bins are in the wrong spot. Curious what actually changed behaviour for other offices because I am close to giving up and just putting one big bin back.
